Whether you live in near the seaboard or are living inland, wind chimes can add an element of beauty to the design of your garden adding to nature’s sounds. One of the key ingredients of a garden is atmosphere; they can give you a flowing atmosphere to a garden and really add to the features of a garden, changing an area of simple grass and flowers to a symphony of the wind.
The best wind chimes are hand tuned by musical professionals. They come in several tunings ranges giving you a large variety of sounds. They also come in many different materials from chrome steel to bamboo. Even if you have a small balcony garden in a high rise apartment the variety of sizes means anyone can own their personalised wind chime set and listen to the natural sounds of the world.
Before you've chosen the size and tuning range of your wind chimes, you'll need to consider location. Ideal location will depend on many factors such as, neighbours; proximity to houses and the average wind speeds in the area. These all can affect the ideal size and tuning of your wind chime. Some advice would be to always consult ones neighbour if the location selected will have an impact on them. Although they make wonderful sounds and notes, please remember that they should always be hung at a safe height away from children and should be taken down in high winds to prevent potential damage.
Ideal locations for hanging the wind chimes are from gazebos, trees or even fence posts. If you don’t have any of those kinds of locations why not use a hanging basket. There are no rules so experiment with different locations until one is found. I have 3 in my garden 2 are around my BBQ party area and one is attached to a hanging basket near the house. Every time we have a BBQ someone always mentions how lovely the gentle sounds in the garden, it is like having Mother Nature play you her song as background music.
For a more personalised gift why not consider engraving them for a more personal touch or to commemorate an anniversary, special birthday or any other celebration. I got a set of wind chimes for my parents’ 50th anniversary with a special engraved message; it really added a nice touch to the present. My parents were really happy with them and now there hanging together outside the summer house.
